The BJP on Saturday welcomed reports suggesting that Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena has approved the prosecution of AAP convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam. &nbsp; 
Reacting to the reports, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, "The ED investigation on Arvind Kejriwal is a welcome move. Regardless of how influential someone is, if they commit a crime, they must face justice."
"I am confident that Kejriwal will be found guilty in the liquor policy scam, where the money of Delhi's poor was looted. When convicted, he will face due punishment," he added.
Speaking to IANS, Tiwari also accused Kejriwal of negligence, saying, "In the past decade, 21,000 lives were lost due to contaminated water in the capital, a direct consequence of his governance."
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva echoed similar sentiments, alleging a "deliberate conspiracy by Kejriwal" to "ruin" Delhi.
"The liquor policy scam has left a stain on Delhi, and this was bound to come to light. Kejriwal orchestrated a plan to loot the city through brokerage and commissions in the liquor trade. He must now face the consequences," he told IANS.
"Even though Kejriwal and his associates are currently out on bail, they remain accused. The law will hold them accountable, and justice will prevail," Sachdeva added.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia refuted the reports of sanction to prosecute Kejriwal, calling them "false and misleading."
In a post on X, he challenged the claims, saying, "If LG Binay Saxena has given permission to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal, then why is the ED not showing the copy of that permission? It is clear that this news is false and misleading. Stop making empty claims to divert attention from the issue of insult to Babasaheb. Show where the sanction to prosecute is."
&nbsp;The liquor policy scam is one of the most significant corruption allegations levelled against the AAP government by the BJP.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that Kejriwal and Sisodia manipulated the Excise Policy 2021-22 to benefit a 'South lobby' in exchange for a Rs 100 crore bribe. The ED claims Rs 45 crore of this amount was used for AAP's Goa election campaign.&nbsp;
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in March for alleged money laundering and released on bail in September. Following his release, he resigned as Chief Minister, pledging to return only after securing a mandate in the 2025 elections.
The ED's case against Kejriwal includes accusations of altering policy guidelines to favour specific liquor vendors. While a PMLA case is registered, the trial is yet to commence. The L-G's sanction is reportedly a step toward initiating prosecution under the Supreme Court's directive for approvals in such cases.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the cancellation of the chargesheet against him. The court issued a notice to the ED on Friday in response to his plea.&nbsp;

Two major Russian airports faced flight restrictions early Saturday following an alleged Ukrainian drone attack, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. According to Russian media, the Federal Air Transport Agency imposed a temporary ban on landings and takeoffs at Kazan International Airport and partial restrictions at Gagarin Airport in Saratov.
Kazan, over 600 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory and approximately 700 kilometres (435 miles) east of Moscow, has previously faced drone attacks. However, Saturday's assault is the first to directly impact residential buildings. Saratov, situated about 350 miles from Ukraine, also faced heightened security measures.
Reports indicate that eight drones were involved in the attack. Four struck two high-rise residential buildings, including the Manhattan housing complex and Lazurny Nebes residential high-rise, where fires broke out before being controlled by emergency responders. Another drone hit a low-rise residential building, while the remaining targeted an industrial enterprise and a river area.
Tatarstan regional head Rustam Minnikhanov described the attack as unprecedented in scale, noting that emergency services swiftly evacuated affected residents, established temporary shelters, and provided essential aid. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin reported fires in three city districts and ordered selective evacuations of schools where deemed necessary.
Russia's Defence Ministry stated that six Ukrainian drones were intercepted&mdash;three shot down and three neutralised via electronic warfare systems. The attack reportedly came in three coordinated waves from different directions.
In response, Ukraine faced a heavy overnight assault, with Russia launching 113 drones into Ukrainian territory. Ukraine's air force claimed to have downed 57 drones, while another 56 went unaccounted for due to countermeasures. Air raid sirens rang across Ukraine, and the air force warned of possible ballistic missile threats.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported significant damage in multiple regions, including an oncology centre in Kherson and residential buildings in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. Kyiv endured ballistic missile strikes, while Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, and Dnipropetrovsk also faced heavy shelling.

Brains of people with high glucose levels and inflammation can age faster, increasing their risk of developing dementia, according to a study.&nbsp;
Researchers at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden used an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to analyse brain images from 739 cognitively healthy people aged 70-years to explore the brain&rsquo;s biological age.
They found various risk and health factors that determine the speed at which the brain ages.
The study, presented in the journal Alzheimer's &amp; Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association, showed that diabetes, stroke, cerebral small vessel disease, and inflammation were linked to brains with an older appearance,
On the other hand, healthy lifestyles involving regular exercise were linked to brains with a younger appearance, the study added.
The team conducted MRI scans of the participant&rsquo;s brains and then estimated the age of the resulting brain images using their AI-based algorithm. Further, blood samples were taken for measuring lipids, glucose, and inflammation; and their cognitive abilities were also tested.
The AI tool estimated the brain age for both sexes to be on average 71 years. The researchers then looked at the &rdquo;brain age gap&rdquo; by subtracting the participants' estimated biological brain age from their chronological age.
&ldquo;A take-home from the study is that factors that adversely affect the blood vessels can also be related to older-looking brains,&rdquo; said lead author Anna Marseglia, a researcher at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Karolinska Institutet.
This &ldquo;shows how important it is to keep your blood vessels healthy, to protect your brain, by making sure, for instance, that your blood glucose level is kept stable,&rdquo; Marseglia added.
The team next aims to launch a study to understand how women and men may differ in how they build resilience,&nbsp;

&nbsp;India will be hosting the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup for the first time in the second half of 2025. The ISSF awarded the hosting rights for the top junior international shooting competition for Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), making it another achievement for the country in shooting sport&nbsp;
This will be the third top ISSF-level event to be held in India after the senior World Cup in Bhopal in 2023 and the season-ending ISSF World Cup Final earlier this year, reinforcing India&rsquo;s stature as one of the sport&rsquo;s top destinations in the world, the NRAI informed in a release on Saturday.
Reacting to the development after the NRAI received the official confirmation letter from the ISSF on Friday, NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo said, &ldquo;We had a very fruitful executive committee meeting of the ISSF in Rome last month and all member federations as well as the ISSF President Luciano Rossi were all praise with the way India has been hosting top international Shooting competitions and helping to grow the sport globally.
"We obviously got the sense then but now that the official confirmation has come, we are excited and energised to put our best foot forward as usual. We are of course indebted to the Government of India and the Ministry of Sports for supporting in every possible way, our efforts to grow the sport in the country,&rdquo; he said.
K. Sultan Singh, Secretary General, NRAI, elaborated on the details of the ISSF communique saying, &ldquo;The ISSF in their letter have requested us to confirm two possible convenient slots, one in September-October and the other during the end October-beginning November period. We will, after meeting internally, share the same with them at the earliest so that member federations can prepare accordingly. The world&rsquo;s top future champions and stars of Shooting are going to converge in India for a blockbuster showdown and we are confident that it will give the sport another grassroots boost in the country.&rdquo;
This will be the ninth top-level shooting championship to be held in India over the past decade, and it will be the first ISSF Junior World Cup. Before this India had hosted continental championships and six ISSF competitions, including two World Cup Final competitions besides four senior ISSF World Cups.
The ranges in India will be busy throughout 2025 with the first-ever Shooting League of India (SLI) also planned in the first half of the year, besides regular national competitions which take place throughout the year culminating in the nationals, the NRAI informed in the release.

Suchir Balaji, an OpenAI whistleblower, has been found dead inside his apartment here, according to multiple reports.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Balaji was found dead inside his Buchanan Street apartment, as confirmed by San Francisco Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The medical examiner&rsquo;s office determined the manner of death to be suicide and police officials this week said there is &ldquo;currently, no evidence of foul play&rdquo;.
&ldquo;The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has identified the decedent as Suchir Balaji, 26, of San Francisco. The manner of death has been determined to be suicide,&rdquo;&nbsp;a spokesperson was quoted as saying in reports.
&ldquo;The OCME has notified the next-of-kin and has no further comment or reports for publication at this time,&rdquo;&nbsp;the spokesperson added.
Balaji worked for nearly four years at OpenAI before quitting the company, after he realized the technology would do more harm than good to society, he told The New York Times.
&ldquo;We are devastated to learn of this incredibly sad news today and our hearts go out to Suchir&rsquo;s loved ones during this difficult time,&rdquo; said an OpenAI spokesperson.
In a post on X in October, Balaji said:&nbsp;&ldquo;I was at OpenAI for nearly 4 years and worked on ChatGPT for the last 1.5 of them. I initially didn&rsquo;t know much about copyright, fair use, etc. but became curious after seeing all the lawsuits against GenAI companies.
&ldquo;When I tried to understand the issue better, I eventually came to the conclusion that fair use seems like a pretty implausible defence for a lot of generative AI products, for the basic reason that they can create substitutes that compete with the data they&rsquo;re trained on,&rdquo;&nbsp;he further posted.
Balaji grew up in Cupertino, California before attending the University of California, Berkeley to study computer science.

Allu Arjun Arrest: A Strategic Play or Legal Lapse?

Three accused in Atul Subhash's suicide case&mdash;his wife, her mother and brother&mdash;who were arrested by Bengaluru Police, have been sent to 14-day judicial custody, officials said here on Sunday.
A senior police officer said Atul Subhash&rsquo;s wife Nikita Singhania was arrested from Haryana&rsquo;s Gurugram and her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania were nabbed in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The accused persons were produced before the court and were sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
After nabbing the accused persons, the Karnataka Police brought them to Bengaluru on Saturday late at night.
More details are yet to emerge in the case.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Atul Subhash had planned to commit suicide 15 days before taking the extreme step. He had written the death note three days prior and searched legal matters on Google.
The police registered an FIR against the accused persons under Sections 108, 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) on December 9. Bikas Kumar, the deceased Atul&rsquo;s younger brother had lodged a police complaint alleging abetment to suicide with the Marathahalli police in Bengaluru.
The FIR was lodged against Subhash&rsquo;s wife Nikita Singhania, mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, brother-in-law Anurag Singhania and relative Sushil Singhania. The police are yet to arrest the fourth accused, Sushil, in the case.
Bikas Kumar alleged in the complaint that false cases were lodged against his brother Atul Subhash by the accused and had demanded ₹3 crore to settle the case. He had also alleged that his brother Atul Subhash was taunted in the court during the proceedings that he had to either give ₹3 crore or commit suicide.
Nikita&rsquo;s family had alleged that the deceased Atul Subhash demanded a hefty dowry from her family which resulted in the death of her father.
Subhash, who was working with an automobile company in Bengaluru, ended his life at his apartment in the early hours of December 9, leaving behind a 90-minute video and a 40-page note, explaining how harassment by his wife Nikita Singhania and her family compelled him to take the extreme step.
The note left by him read: &ldquo;If the court decides that the corrupt judge and my wife and other harassers are not guilty, then pour my ashes into some gutter outside the court. Don&rsquo;t do my &lsquo;asthi visarjan&rsquo;&nbsp;till my harassers get punished.&rdquo;&nbsp;
However, the family collected the ashes from the Bengaluru crematorium where Subhash&rsquo;s final rites were conducted. The family stated that the ashes would be taken to Patna, from where the family originally hails from and it will be immersed into the river as per the traditions.
The suicide note, under the headline &ldquo;Justice is Due&rdquo;, addressed to his 2-year-old child, read: &ldquo;Now with me gone, there will not be any money to loot and I hope that they might start to look at the facts of the cases. Someday, you shall know the real face of your mother and her greedy family.
&ldquo;I pray that they don&rsquo;t devour you and your soul. I often laugh when I remember that I started saving money for a car when you go to college. Silly me. Remember this always that you don&rsquo;t owe anything to anyone. Don&rsquo;t trust the system.&rdquo;
Subhash further listed out his last wishes in the note.
&ldquo;All my case hearings should happen live and people of this country should know about my case and learn the terrible state of the legal system and misuse of law these women are doing.&rdquo;&nbsp;
He also requested to allow the suicide note and videos as his statement and evidence.
&ldquo;I fear that the judge might tamper with the documents, put pressure on witnesses and can adversely affect other cases. Based on my experience, Bengaluru courts are relatively more law-abiding than Uttar Pradesh courts. I request to run the cases in Karnataka in the interest of justice and keep her in the judicial and police custody in Bengaluru till the trial goes on,&rdquo;&nbsp;the note read.
He further wrote: &ldquo;Give the custody of my child to my parents who can raise him with better values. Don&rsquo;t let my wife or her family come near my dead body. Give maximum punishment to my harassers though I don&rsquo;t trust our legal system too much. If people like my wife are not put behind jail, they would be more emboldened and will put more false cases on other sons of society in the future.
&ldquo;To wake up the judiciary and urge them to stop harassment of my parents and my brother in false cases. There shall be no negotiations, settlements and mediation with these evil people and the culprits must be punished,&rdquo; the letter read.

Four members of a family, including a newlywed couple, lost their lives when the car they were travelling in collided with a minibus at Murinjikkal in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district.&nbsp;
The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday and the bus was carrying Sabarimala pilgrims.
The deceased were identified as Mathayi Eappen, Anu, Nikhil, and Biju George, all natives of Mallassery in Konni.
Nikhil and Anu, who had tied the knot on November 30, were returning home from Thiruvananthapuram airport after their honeymoon in Malaysia.
Biju George was Anu&rsquo;s father, while Mathayi Eappen was Nikhil&rsquo;s father. Nikhil worked in Canada and was planning to settle there with Anu, who was preparing to join him.
The accident happened around 4.05 a.m. on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha State Highway. According to police, the car likely collided with the bus carrying pilgrims from Hyderabad after the car&rsquo;s driver fell asleep at the wheel.
Three men in the car died on the spot, while the woman succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Pathanamthitta. A few passengers of the bus, including the driver, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The locals arrived at the spot first and tried to help the victims. The police and fire force arrived at the scene and used a hydraulic cutter to extricate the four occupants trapped inside the car.
Local residents have raised concerns about the increasing number of accidents on this stretch of the Punalur-Muvattupuzha highway following its recent reconstruction.
Kurien Joseph, a local Congress leader, expressed his condolences. He said, &ldquo;The marriage of Anu and Nikhil was solemnised on November 30 after an eight-year-long love affair. This tragedy struck just seven kilometres from their home.&rdquo;
The two families were in a state of shock as neighbours and their relatives tried to console them.
The police said they were investigating the accident.

Haryana security personnel on Saturday lobbed teargas shells to disperse protesting farmers who were attempting to cross multi-layered barricades erected as a preventive step at Shambhu border point between Punjab and Haryana.&nbsp;
Farmers had resumed their &lsquo;Delhi Chalo&rsquo; foot march on Saturday, pressing for the fulfillment of their long-pending demands, including a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops and loan waivers.
The police, who were trying to convince a delegation of 101 farmers that they should not enter Haryana as they didn&rsquo;t have permission to go to the national capital, and should go back, also used water cannons to disperse them.
This was the third attempt by the 101 farmers to march towards the national capital as part of the ongoing protest that has now completed 10 months. Earlier, they attempted to march towards Delhi on December 6 and 8.
The protesting farmers have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, both in Punjab, since February 13, after security forces stopped their attempts to proceed to Delhi.
The protest is being held under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced the decision to march towards Delhi and mentioned that farmers had prayed at Sikh shrines to express solidarity and seek blessings for the movement&rsquo;s success.
Meanwhile, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for over 18 days at the Khanauri border, has seen his health deteriorate significantly. Doctors attending to him have reported decreasing weight and unstable blood pressure.
On Friday, the Supreme Court directed the Punjab and Central governments to ensure medical assistance for Dallewal, emphasizing that his life is more important than the agitation. The court also suggested that the farmers adopt Gandhian methods of protest.
In anticipation of the march, security along the interstate border on the Ghaggar rivulet has been heightened, with central paramilitary forces and Haryana police deployed.
During the earlier march attempts, teargas shells were used by the security forces to prevent farmers from crossing the barricades. Temporary barricades, heavily guarded by police and paramilitary personnel, were set up to restrict their movement.
The protesting farmers had briefly suspended their march on December 8 after clashes with security personnel at Shambhu resulted in injuries. However, the farmers remain steadfast in their demands, which include legal reforms to improve the agricultural sector.
The Haryana police had previously invoked prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to justify their actions in preventing the protestors from advancing. Despite this, the farmers are determined to highlight their grievances in front of Parliament.
Meanwhile, ahead of the march, internet services in several areas of Ambala, Haryana, have been suspended from 6 am on Saturday to 11.59 pm on December 17. 
A statement from the Haryana Department of Home Affairs said, &ldquo;I, Home Secretary, Haryana, do hereby order the suspension of the mobile Internet services (2G/3G/4G/5G/CDMA/GPRS), bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services etc, provided on mobile networks except the voice calls in the area of villages Dangdehri, Lohgarh, Manakpur, Dadiyana, Bari Ghel, Choti Ghel, Lharsa, Kalu Majra, Devi Nagar (Hira Nagar, Naresh Vihar), Saddopur, Sultanpur and Kakru in the jurisdiction of district Ambala. All telecom service providers of Haryana are hereby directed to ensure the compliance of this order.&rdquo;
&ldquo;This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the area,&rdquo; it added.
Authorities however, exempted individual SMSs, mobile recharge, banking SMSs, voice calls, and Internet services from the suspension that began on Saturday and will end on 11.59 pm on December 17.
Questioning the government&rsquo;s stance on the farmers&rsquo; march to the national capital, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Saturday asked how a group of 101 farmers walking on foot towards Delhi could be considered a threat to national peace and order. 
On Working President of the All India Kisan Congress and wrestler, Bajrang Punia&rsquo;s decision to join the farmers, Pandher said that they have no problem with a sportsperson or celebrity joining the stir, but want to keep political parties away.&nbsp; 
&ldquo;Only 101 farmers will head towards Delhi today at noon. Every movement has its purpose. Despite the government&rsquo;s efforts and military barriers, our voices have reached 140 crore citizens. The voice of Shambhu and Khanauri is resonating across the country, and the prime minister must respect this voice,&rdquo; Pandher said.
He further questioned, &ldquo;While Parliament discusses the Constitution, do Shambhu and Khanauri follow a different Constitution? How can 101 individuals walking peacefully, pose a threat to peace and order?"
Pandher also expressed concern over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 19 days at the Khanauri border.
&ldquo;His condition is critical. The entire country is worried, yet the prime minister seems indifferent,&rdquo; he remarked.
He also stated that they expect to convince farmers from other organizations, who have stayed out of the stir till now, to join the movement.

Tollywood actor Allu Arjun&rsquo;s lawyers plan to initiate legal action over his &ldquo;illegal detention&rdquo; despite the Telangana High Court&rsquo;s orders to release him immediately. 
After Allu Arjun&rsquo;s release from Chanchalguda Jail on Saturday morning, his lawyer Ashok Reddy told media that he was kept in illegal detention despite jail authorities receiving order copy from the high court.
The lawyer said the high court had clearly stated in its order that the accused should be released forthwith.
&ldquo;Despite receiving the order copy, they did not release him. You should question the government and department why the actor was not released. The high court order was very specific that forthwith, the moment you receive the order, you have to release the actor. Despite that, they have not released. They have to answer,&rdquo; the lawyer said.
&ldquo;We have to take further steps. Whatever legally permissible we will take,&rdquo; he added.
The actor&rsquo;s legal team maintained that there was no delay in prison authorities receiving the order. They claimed that they submitted a certified copy of the high court order and the messenger of the high court also furnished a copy to the authorities.
Soon after his release, Allu Arjun drove to Geetha Arts, the film production house of the family, and spoke to his lawyers for an hour.
He later reached his house, where his family members received him. The actor was seen hugging his wife, children and other family members.
A large number of fans of the actor gathered outside his house to welcome him.
Talking to the media after reaching his house in Jubilee Hills, he said he would cooperate with the law enforcing authorities and do the needful.
He thanked all his fans across the country for their love and support.
&ldquo;I want to tell my fans that I am doing well. There is nothing to worry about. Thank you very much,&rdquo; the actor said.
He once again expressed his condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life in the stampede at a theatre in Hyderabad during the premier show of Pushpa 2: The Rule.
&ldquo;It was very unfortunate. They went to watch the film and there was an accident. It was totally unintentional. I am very sorry for whatever has happened. It was purely out of my personal control,&rdquo; said Allu Arjun, who was booked by police for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The actor said he had been going to theatres to watch films for the last 20 years, but what happened on that day was very unfortunate.
He said he had been to that place (Sandhya Theatre) for more than 30 times.
&ldquo;I will be there for the family to support them in whatever way I can. We can never cover the loss of the person but I will support them in whatever possible way&rdquo; said the actor, who already announced ₹25 lakh for the family of the deceased.
The pan-India actor spoke in English, Hindi and Telugu to thank his fans, saying he was here because of their love and support.
He did not reply when asked if he believed the Telangana government was behind his arrest.
&ldquo;When the law is taking care of itself, I should not hamper the case,&rdquo; he said and refused to answer any questions relating to the legal aspects of the case.
The National Award-winning actor agreed that it was a very challenging situation for the family.
The national award-winning actor was released from jail at 6.40 am, nearly 12 hours after the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail for four weeks.
Jail authorities said they received the bail order late in the night and since the prisoners can&rsquo;t be released during night hours as per the jail manual, the actor was released the next morning.
